Dov Engelberg , President

I attended Harvard-Westlake School here in LA, then went to UC Berkeley and UCLA, where I graduated with Golden Key, Summa Cum Laude, Outstanding Senior and Phi Beta Kappa awards. After college, I earned a Master’s in Writing from USC, and also attended UCLA Law School. You can probably tell – I like school.

I began tutoring for academic subjects and standardized tests when I was in high school, continued through college, and eventually formed my own company, The Prep School, after college. I have worked as a Master Tutor for ISEE/SSAT/ACT/SAT/LSAT/GRE/GMAT exams for more than 15 years, have ghost-written on several test prep books for the SAT, ACT, and have received perfect scores on all but one of those tests (I don’t like to say which!)

With Mulholland Prep, the idea was always to create a place where people who didn’t want any compromises in their kids’ educational journey could come and know they are getting the best.

The formula was simple, but so hard to attain: find unbelievable  tutors, pay them properly, and work hand in hand with parents and families to try to fulfill each student’s unique potential.

I’m most proud of the fact that Mulholland Prep doesn’t sacrifice the quality of our tutors or tutoring to try to grow unnaturally. I always felt that a lot of big tutoring companies are really marketing companies that happen to tutor. We’re a tutoring company. Made up of tutors who care about their students.

When I started, I didn’t have kids. Now I do, but my mantra remains the same – when it’s necessary, this is the tutoring I want to give to my kids.

When I’m not tutoring, I’m playing with my kids, my dog, enjoying a movie with my wife, or crying over the Lakers. Occasionally, cheering about the Lakers.

Will, Director, Mulholland Prep Infinite

I attended Pelham Memorial High School where I was an Intel Semifinalist for my work entitled Programming Yeast with Chemical Complementation. I continued my studies at Columbia University.  After sophomore year, I switched from chemistry to neuroscience where I was a Howard Hughes Summer Fellow at the Columbia University Medical Center.  I was a recruited soccer player, but walked onto the Columbia Football team as a place kicker. I was a Dean’s List student, and graduated with a Neuroscience degree and concentration in Comparative Literature.

After graduating, I decided to pursue my passion for story telling and worked at Pixar Animation Studios on COCO.  Impassioned about teaching and excited about the prospect of infusing creativity into learning while writing my fantasy novel, I began tutoring in the Fall of 2012.

My favorite part about working with Mulholland Prep are the special students I get to work with and the amazing families I get to meet.  There is no greater feeling than a student realizing their unique potential, gaining confidence, and igniting an intellectual spark that will propel them to fulfill their passions and dreams in whatever academic and non-academic endeavors they pursue.

When I’m not tutoring, I love to play with my two dogs, Gimli and Fiona, write, travel, cook, enjoy food and wine, hike, explore nature, go to museums, play sports, practice yoga and pilates, and be an active member of my community in raising awareness for global health, animal wellness, education, and nutrition.

Emily Coe-Sullivan, College Counselor

I grew up in the South Bay, but spent 15 years in New England before finally convincing my husband to move to beautiful Southern California. I received my B.A. in English Literature and Women’s Studies from Brown University and my Master’s in Education from Harvard University.

I have several years’ experience working on college campuses and directly with students on the college application process. I love helping students articulate their passions and personalities in their essays and applications.

In my free time, I love reading, photography, and hiking with my husband and two girls.

Michelle Agresti, Director of Outreach

I’m from New Jersey, and graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in English and a Certificate in South Asian Studies. At Wesleyan, I worked as a Writing Tutor and was the Arts Editor on the campus newspaper, as well as an editor for a student news radio station, and a manager of a campus arts blog.

I’ve been working as a tutor since 2015, and I tutor test-prep in ISEE and ACT, as well as in the Literature, U.S. History, and World History SAT Subject Tests. I also help students with executive functioning, organization, writing, and general homework help. I’ve been running some enrichment programs in Creative Writing programs with Mulholland Prep, and I love to work with students on developing their writing skills and getting more comfortable expressing themselves clearly! My favorite part of tutoring is figuring out what each individual student needs help with, and discovering the unique way to help them reach their goals!

When I’m not working, I like to knit, make crafts, and dance. I’m always looking for a new book to read, or a new film or play to watch, and I love to learn new things. Ask me what I’m reading!

CASEY GIBEAUT, SOUTH BAY/BEACH CITIES MANAGER

I attended Marymount High School in Los Angeles before going on to major in Convergence Journalism at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas.

After college I worked in advertising and marketing in addition to tutoring. I have been tutoring for over 12 years and have enjoyed working with students of all different ages from all over the South Bay in a variety of academic subjects, including the ISEE/SSAT. There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you see the lightbulb go off in your student’s head. I love meeting families and helping students become their best selves.

When I’m not tutoring, I can be found riding my bike along the strand, swimming laps, spending time with friends at the beach and watching Dodgers games. I love to travel and my number one bucket list item is to see the Northern Lights.

BEN

I attended Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, matriculating to Princeton University, where I majored in History, minored in Judaic Studies, and competed on the track and field team. Following college, I successfully completed a Post-baccalaureate premedical program at Scripps College in Claremont, California, and will soon attend medical school.

Helping my students reach academic success and watching them triumph over intimidating standardized tests and complicated subjects is satisfying and rewarding. While I specialize in ACT/SAT test prep, I can work with students of all ages and backgrounds.

In my free time I enjoy running, reading, writing, and going to the beach.

SASHA

I received a BA from Middlebury College, graduating Cum Laude with Honors in English and American Literatures, and I hold an MFA in acting from the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University.

For seven years, I was a private academic coach in New York City. I specialize in the humanities, with a focus on analytical reading and writing. Over the course of my time doing this work, I have become especially interested in helping students develop the executive functioning skills needed to reach their full potential. Specifically, I work with students to construct organizational systems so that homework and studying become automatic. If a student has had a neuropsychological evaluation, I follow the recommendations of their psychologist and work with them to implement a learning plan that is effective and efficient.

I also coach baseball, working with after school programs and travel teams. In the summer of 2014, I had the good fortune to serve as Site Director for the New York Yankees Youth Summer Baseball Camps, having been head coach of the Rookie Division the summer before. Today, when I am not tutoring or acting, I am playing soccer, surfing or searching L.A. in vain for a bagel that compares with the best of New York.

MIRIAM

I graduated summa cum laude from UCLA, majoring in Communications with a Business Specialization back when UCLA still had a business specialization. While there, I started tutoring for the SAT/ACT/ISEEs and I soon realized that it was something I liked and had a propensity for (my Dad was a math teacher and professor so teaching runs in the family), hence 20 years later I’m still doing it. I love kids of all ages and I’m a fan of their families too. These tests can be so challenging both academically and mentally/ emotionally, so I work to instill a sense of confidence in my students as well as give them the knowledge and power to feel in control of the parts they have a say over and flexible with the parts they don’t.

When I’m not tutoring I am momming hard with my adorable (I’m biased) 2.5 year old, listening to podcasts (especially anything brain related because it fascinates me), doing voice-overs for commercials and educational programs, and imagining there are more hours in the day. I love learning, I love reading, and I love connecting with people. It is so creatively fulfilling to work with students and figure out how their brains work and what excites them and then be able to support and bring a sense of calm, peace, and clarity to the entire standardized test taking process.

KATIE

I attended The Ursuline School in New York before going on to major in Math and Theatre Arts at Boston College, graduating magna cum laude and from the honors program.  I got a perfect score in my Verbal section and in my Math section on the PSAT and SAT.

I have tutored Math and the SAT since 2003.  I currently tutor the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, and Math (pre-algebra through AP Calculus AB).  I also tutor the GRE Math section.  I’m proud to offer students test-taking skills, math know-how, and some humor in each session.  I love the moment when a concept finally clicks for a student!

When I’m not tutoring I can be found doing musical puppet improv, narrating audiobooks, acting, volunteering at a dog shelter, and dreaming of corgis.

BRETT

I was born and raised here in Los Angeles, attending Harvard-Westlake School before the University of Virginia, where I obtained my B.S. in Environmental Sciences in 2014. In pursuit of my professional interests in healthcare administration, I obtained my MPH from UCLA in 2017.

Outside of Mulholland Prep, I currently work at Kaiser Permanente in Woodland Hills. Some of my hobbies include watching and playing sports, spending time in nature, and watching the newest Marvel movie!! I hope to get to know you!

Eva

I attended Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles before going on to major in Psychology at USC.

During and after college, I worked in childcare in addition to tutoring. I also worked as an Administrative Assistant for a law firm in Calabasas. I have been tutoring for over 6 years and enjoy preparing students for their upcoming tests. I specialize in ISEE and Academic Subject tutoring. I love to see students succeed in their academic endeavors!

When I’m not tutoring I can be found spending time with my family and friends. I love learning about interior design and I enjoy cooking, painting, and traveling. I also recently got married and we just took home the cutest puppy!

LENA

I attended Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles before going on to play Division I soccer and track and field at The University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. I majored in Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences, and graduated summa cum laude in 2017 with a BA in Sports Medicine and a Business Management minor, and received my MA in Exercise Physiology in 2018. While in college, I worked in marketing and project management for media and food services in addition to tutoring.

I currently coach Varsity Girls Soccer at Sierra Canyon High School. I have worked with kids for about 5 years now, and absolutely love it. It brings me joy to know that I helped someone gain a few steps closer towards their goals and aspirations. I enjoy working with all academic subjects, and also help with ERB/ISEE testing. Being a student-athlete, I have developed strong time-management skills to simply break down and explain the important concepts woven in the complex information.

In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano or the guitar, going to the gym, watching movies, or camping/hiking. I love traveling to new places, and taste-testing cuisines from around the world.

Christian

I attended Brunswick High School in Maine, before going on to Double Major in History and Theater at Wesleyan University (CT).  I also was fortunate enough to study abroad in London, which gave me the chance to travel across Europe!

I have been working with students in Los Angeles for the last two years and still love the rush of helping young people connect with and learn new skills and materials.

When not tutoring, I am either hiking, writing, or exploring some new corner of LA with friends.  Unless there’s a playoff game on; then we’ll most certainly be watching.  My favorite place on earth is Acadia National Park on the coast of Maine.

ADAM

I attended El Camino Real High School, then UC Berkeley, where I was a Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholar and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude. I then completed a PhD in policy analysis at the Pardee RAND Graduate School and an MD at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, finishing in 2017. Currently, I’m a resident in internal medicine at UCLA.

Since 2011, I’ve been working with Mulholland Prep with students of all ages, tutoring in the SAT and ISEE, as well as biology, chemistry, environmental science, calculus, trigonometry, and algebra. My favorite part of being a Mulholland Prep tutor is helping kids to connect with the joy of learning – I love seeing the light bulb go on.

Rachel

I’m about to finish my masters of social welfare at UCLA! I graduated from USC in 2017 (still loyal to USC football). I tutored with Mulholland Prep in high school, and had great success! Once I got to grad school, I got involved with Mulholland Prep as a tutor and love it! Nothing gives me more joy than seeing students succeed in school and on standardized tests and helping them to keep perspective and balance.

Zoe

Zoe grew up in Northern California, and she dreamed of becoming a writer since childhood. She attended college at Wesleyan University, where she majored in Film Studies with a certificate in Creative Writing. Zoe also worked as a writing tutor at Wesleyan and spent several years studying the discipline of tutoring writing in all subjects. After college, Zoe moved to Los Angeles with the goal of writing for film and TV. She currently lives in Santa Monica with her two cats, Hannibal and Clarice. In her free time, Zoe loves running, hiking, reading, and roller blading, though she’s admittedly less skilled at the latter!

Melvi

I was born and raised in the South Bay, ultimately receiving a Master’s degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction (Magna Cum Laude). After college I began working as a behavior therapist and as a foreign language tutor. Now I work for Manhattan Beach Unified School District and here at Mulholland Prep as a tutor!

I have always had a passion for learning, teaching and sparking creativity. My interest in education has led me to travel different areas of the world to create a life with meaning and a better understanding of the planet we live in.

My favorite part about tutoring is getting to work with kids and making them excited to learn. When I’m not working I am relaxing at home or at the beach. My hobbies include walking my dog Polly, traveling and watching movies.
