ISEE C
Understanding Your Scores:
The ISEE uses a stanine scoring system, which ranges from 1 to 9. A score of 5 is average, with most students (about 56%) scoring in the 4–6 range. Only the top 10% of test-takers receive an 8 or 9, and the lowest 10% receive a 1 or 2. Keep in mind that these scores reflect a comparison to other students applying to independent schools, not the general population.
This report reflects the results of a practice exam, designed to help us better tailor your child’s preparation. Stanine scores can vary from test to test, especially early on, due to factors like test-day energy, confidence, and familiarity with the material. This is normal.
It’s also important to note that we use a conservative scoring curve on our diagnostics— slightly tougher than the official one—so these scores may be up to one point lower than what your student could score on test day.
